North Carolinians Need Affordability, Not More Campaign Visits

By Elisabeth Teller

North Carolina has become a destination for campaigners and political operatives from outside our state. It upsets me that the President or Vice President have been here almost every week lately.. But when the campaigns pack up and leave, North Carolinians are still left dealing with the same everyday challenges.

Families are struggling with rising grocery bills, housing costs, utility bills, and the cost of raising children. Working people want to know that they can afford to live in the communities they call home. Seniors want to stretch their retirement savings, and young people want a realistic chance to buy a home and build a future here.

All the campaign visits in the world will not lower a family’s rent or make groceries more affordable. Political slogans and promises mean little if they do not translate into real improvements in people’s lives.

Of course, civic participation matters, and people from across the country have a right to support the candidates they believe in. But North Carolinians deserve more than to be treated as another battleground on the political map. They deserve leaders who listen to their concerns, understand their struggles, and make affordability a priority long after Election Day.

Instead of measuring success by how many out-of-state campaigners show up, let’s measure it by whether North Carolina families can pay their bills, keep a roof over their heads, and build a better future.

North Carolina needs solutions that work for North Carolinians—not just another campaign season.
